MARION DESMARET
Marion Desmaret is a filmmaker, journalist and editor.
She started her career in Paris working for the European network ARTE, before relocating to Berlin 9 years ago and becoming an independent director. Over the course of more than a hundred reports and documentaries, she has interviewed renowned figures such as Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States, British music legends Depeche Mode, and fashion avant-garde icon Michèle Lamy. From working with big production teams to being a one-woman crew, Marion adapts herself to the circumstances, balancing between personal works and tv projects.
In 2022 in Uganda, she made a documentary about the Nyege Nyege Festival, the biggest festival for alternative music in East Africa and currently collaborates with their Kampala-based collective and record label to promote the Pan-African music and arts scene.
Based between East Africa and Europe, her aim isn’t to only narrate well-known tales, but to shine a light on those that transform our society, far from the spotlight.
