MARION DESMARET | Director, Writer
Marion Desmaret is a filmmaker and writer based between Europe and East Africa.
After fifteen years of international reporting and documentary work, she is currently expanding her practice into hybrid filmmaking and fiction.
She began her career in Paris with the European network ARTE before relocating to Berlin. Over the course of her career, she has interviewed figures such as Al Gore, Depeche Mode, and Michèle Lamy. From working with big production teams to being a one-woman crew, Marion adapts herself to the circumstances, balancing between personal works and tv projects.
In 2022 in Uganda, she made a documentary about the Nyege Nyege Festival, the biggest festival for alternative music in East Africa and currently collaborates with their Kampala-based collective and record label to promote the Pan-African music and arts scene.
Her self-produced experimental hybrid short Forget the Director, This Is Emmy's Cut! will have its World Premiere at the 2026 International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
She has several fiction and documentary projects in development.

Forget the Director, This is Emmy's Cut!
My film "Forget the Director, This Is Emmy’s Cut!" will have its World Premiere at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam this January.
It was shot just a few months ago in Uganda between Kampala’s chaos and rural cinema halls.

Previous Works
One Man Rave: The story of DJ Decimal

In the streets of Kampala, Uganda's capital, I followed DJ Decimal Point pushing his makeshift cart loaded with speakers, a solar panel, computer keyboards and electronics, reinventing the traditional DJ desk. This is the story of a captivating street artist with difficult beginnings, boundless creativity and dreams of superstardom.

The Kampala Brass Band
In Uganda, I filmed trumpetist and activist Florence Lugemwa hard at work to give the children of the Katogo slums of the capital a chance to build themselves a different future thanks to music.
